March 11, 2003 Encouraging Literacy Development in Infants and Toddlers Marsha Glick
Resource Specialist, STAR NET Region II

The role of parents in a child’s literacy development is one of the most important things to consider in the early years. Literacy development is an ongoing process that takes place over time and allows the child to understand and respond to both visual and verbal questions and comments. In this Chat, Marsha Glick answered questions such as, “What is the best way day care providers can promote infant literacy?” “How do we encourage parents to understand that reading to their children is important to enhance vocabulary?” “What do you tell parents who say their toddler won't listen to stories?” “What are some appropriate library experiences for infants and toddlers?”
