Appreciating the Natural World with Young Children
Valerie Keener, Administrator, Division of Education
Illinois Department of Natural Resources
Valerie KeenerValerie Keener is Administrator of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ (IDNR) Division of Education, a position she has held since August 2005. She previously was an education specialist in the IDNR Division of Education from 1994 until assuming her present position. Her duties include administering all aspects of the Division as well as promotion and development of educational materials and programs for teachers of grades PreK–12. She formerly taught in both elementary and secondary schools. Currently, she is an adjunct faculty member of the University of Illinois at Springfield. She holds a B.S. in zoology with teaching certification and a M.S. in zoology, both from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois, and she has completed further graduate studies at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma.
