Gooler February 2010 Moving from Early Intervention to PreK: What Parents and Caregivers Want to KnowFelicia Fahl Gooler

Felicia Fahl Gooler (M.Ed.) is the Director of the Developmental Services Center (DSC) Early Intervention program in Champaign, Illinois. She currently supervises an interdisciplinary staff that collaborates with local school districts, Head Start, and other community agencies to work for comprehensive services for young children and their families. She is a member of the Champaign County Birth to 6 Council, recently serving for 2 years as the coordinator. Ms. Gooler received her M.Ed. from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in Early Childhood Special Education. Prior to her position at DSC, Ms. Gooler worked on a number of projects in the University of Illinois Department of Special Education. As a curriculum reviewer for the CLAS (Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services) Early Childhood Research Institute, Ms. Gooler reviewed curriculum materials for early intervention and was a content editor for the CLAS technical reports. For 10 years, she worked in developing and implementing the PIWI (Parents Interacting With Infants) model, first as a program facilitator and supervisor of the PIWI playgroups and then as one of the developers of the PIWI training curriculum (PIWI: A Relationship-Based Approach to Early Intervention). She has been a presenter at local, state, and national conferences. Ms. Gooler has also published in Infant-Toddler Intervention: A Transdisciplinary Journal, Infants and Young Children, and Young Exceptional Children.
